Who We Are

Olive Deli & Café opened its doors in Skerries in 2005. Run by husband and wife team, Peter and Deirdre Dorrity, Olive prides itself in being a welcoming, casual, unpretentious, neighbourhood café and deli. The quality of our produce and the service for our clientele are our priorities. We use the best possible Irish and European ingredients and basically serve amazing sandwiches, soups, baked goods, salads, coffees and much more.

The icing on the cake is our location, beautiful Skerries.  Skerries boasts two pristine beaches, great walking trails and a friendly, low key atmosphere. Olive Deli & Café is located right in the middle of the main street, Strand Street, and you can sit outside our deli or on our pretty café terrace, sip on a flat white and watch the world go by! See you soon at Olive x

Inspired by the farmers market in Temple Bar, where we operated our first café, Café Irie, when we opened Olive, we wanted to utilise and maximise the produce from the great artisan producers we now have in Ireland.

Every single ingredient we use is unprocessed and of a high quality. That’s why our food tastes so good.

We like to get the simple things right. Our “hot roll” changes daily. We might slow cook joints of beef brisket or neck of  pork overnight in our thermodyne oven until they are melt in the mouth tender, or we might serve a Rose harissa chicken with locally grown baby spinach and a mint yogurt dressing. On Mondays we keep our hot roll meat free, for example an Asian tofu wrap, or Chilli Halloumi.

Our soups are homemade from scratch, our salads are seasonal. The breads we use are sourdough, from Arbutus and Tartine bakeries. Our cheese is from Sheridans cheesemongers, our olives are from Lilliput trading company. Our chorizo is from The Gubbeen smokehouse, our pate is from the English market in Cork, our bacon is from Mc Carthys in Cork and our free range eggs are from Skerries. Our tuna is line caught Ortiz and is infused with chilli seasoning in house.

Our mustards and relishes are made by Filligans in Donegal. Our chicken is free range and is chargrilled fresh in house. For our sandwiches, we home make our salsa, hummus, pesto and tapenade.

You get the picture, we are very fussy about ingredients. Excellent ingredients make an excellent sandwich. Pop in and taste for yourself!

  • In Skerries’ iconic Olive Café and Olive Deli, Deirdre and Peter feed people. They don’t just make food for their customers, they feed their customers. They give them all the goodness of food and sharing food and enjoying food, and that’s why this café and deli is the champion of Skerries, and that’s why it keeps getting bigger, and better.

  • This is ace cooking, patiently considered, deftly delivered, and served with charm by a team who relish their work, who are as addicted to the noise and bustle of Olive just as much as the customers are. And let’s acknowledge that the energy of the café and the deli is indeed part of the attraction, because we all want to mainline the energy, we all want to be in the room where it happens.
